Nine Ladies on Stanton Moor There are many prehistoric remains on Stanton Moor but the Nine Ladies stone circle is probably the best known. The circle was probably a sacred site where religious ceremonies took place, not just for Bronze Age burial purposes but for celebrations as well. The circle is 33 feet in diameter and about 130ft away is a King Stone. It's name is based on a legend that nine ladies and a fiddler, the kings stone, were turned to stone for making music and dancing on the Sabbath. |
